FAQs Monkey Bars
1. Can I install monkey bars in a rental property without drilling into walls or concrete?
Yes. Our no-drill monkey bars use a tension-mount system between floor and ceiling, so no drilling, wall fixtures, or concrete anchoring is required. This makes them suitable for rental properties, apartments, and any home where you can’t or don’t want to drill into walls.
The frame is held in place by adjustable pressure, not screws or bolts, so it can also be relocated or removed without leaving damage — which matters if you’re worried about bond conditions at the end of a lease.
2. Are Tinnitots Monkey Bars height adjustable?
Yes, our no-drill models are height-adjustable, which lets the same frame suit toddlers through to older kids as they grow.
Wall-mounted (drilled) models are adjustable where chin up bars are. Height extension kits are available separately in our Accessories range for homes with ceilings up to 3 metres.
3. Are Tinnitots monkey bars safe and durable for daily use?
Yes. Our play gyms are made from European-sourced solid metal, German engineered to European standards, and tested to a 200kg load capacity. Frames are designed for daily climbing, swinging, and hanging, and come with a 36 Months Frame warranty.
For added safety, we recommend using a crash mat or landing pad of at least 10cm thickness under the full play area, and adult supervision at all times. These are available in the Accessories section.
4. What’s the difference between indoor monkey bars and outdoor/freestanding monkey bars?
Indoor monkey bars are designed for use inside the home using a no-drill tension-mount or wall-stud-mounted system, and are built to fit standard ceiling heights and indoor flooring (carpet, tile, or timber).
Outdoor and freestanding monkey bars are typically larger, weatherproof structures anchored into the ground with concrete footings or ground anchors, which is what allows them to carry much higher load ratings than most indoor designs.
Indoor models are engineered differently: because they mount to a ceiling, wall, or use floor-to-ceiling tension rather than a concreted footing, load capacity is measured against a different structural standard than an outdoor in-ground frame.
If you’re looking for a compact, apartment or rental-safe option that doesn’t require outdoor space, an indoor model is the right fit; if you have a backyard and want a permanent ground-anchored structure, a freestanding outdoor frame is a better match.
When comparing load capacity between products, check whether the figure is for an indoor (ceiling/wall/tension-mounted) or outdoor (ground-anchored) design — the two aren’t directly comparable.
5. Do Tinnitots monkey bars work on all wall and ceiling types, including plasterboard, brick, and concrete?
Our no-drill models work on any flooring type (carpet, tile, or timber) and don’t require wall or ceiling fixing at all.
For our No drill frame models, the frame required flat, fixed ceiling. The frame pressure points on top must be positioned on Ceiling joists for effective pressure distribution. If joists are spaced too far apart we recommend placing a wooden plank (no drilling) on top. This helps stabilise the frame and evenly distribute the pressure caused due to movement.
For our wall-mounted models, the frame is compatible with all common Australian wall types — plasterboard/Gyprock on a timber frame, brick, concrete, and timber — provided it’s secured into wall studs for proper load distribution. If studs are spaced too far apart for the bracket, we recommend fixing a horizontal wooden plank across the studs first, then mounting the gym onto the plank.
6. How much weight can indoor monkey bars hold, and are they suitable for older kids or adults?
Our frames are tested to a 200kg load capacity, which is well above the load rating typically seen on indoor monkey bar frames in Australia, where many designs are rated significantly lower. This is possible because our gyms are engineered to European standards, using German engineering principles applied to ceiling-and-wall tension mounting rather than ground anchoring. A higher load rating means our frames comfortably support not just young children but older kids, teens, and supervised adult use. It’s worth noting that indoor load ratings shouldn’t be compared directly to outdoor, ground-anchored monkey bars — outdoor frames are anchored into concrete footings and are structurally a different category, so a higher outdoor figure doesn’t mean a stronger or safer product for indoor, no-drill use. Within the indoor category specifically, our 200kg rating is understood to be among the highest available. Suitability for individual users also depends on bar spacing and grip size, so younger children (ages 3+) may need the height and spacing adjusted to suit their reach.
7. Is it normal for the frame to move or flex slightly during use?
A small amount of movement during active play is normal for tension-mounted frames, since the system isn’t bolted or concreted into a fixed structure — this is part of how it absorbs force safely rather than transferring all of it into the wall or ceiling. If you notice more movement than expected, check that all tension levers, brackets, and fittings are fully locked and tightened, and that the frame is on a flat, level surface. Contact our support team if movement continues even after checking these.
8. Are indoor monkey bars actually suitable for small apartments and Therapy Clinics?
Yes — apartments are one of the best use cases for indoor monkey bars, since they don’t require a backyard or any drilling. Our no-drill models are designed to fit standard ceiling heights (most Australian homes are around 2.4m) and work on any flooring type, including carpet, tile, and timber. For smaller floor plans, look for a compact or modular model you can start small with and expand later, and keep a clear fall zone free of furniture around the frame.
